What a subscription actually buys
A recurring prompt. The genuine product is that a box arrives and somebody has to open it. In a busy household, that external trigger is worth more than an unopened kit on a shelf.
Novelty without a decision. Nobody has to research or choose. For a gift-giver who is not confident in the category, that is a real service.
A curated difficulty curve. KiwiCo publishes age-banded lines, so the content tracks the child rather than being chosen once.

What happens when a subscription is canceled
Worth thinking about before starting one, because it is the difference between a subscription and a purchase.
A boxed kit that stops being used is still in the cupboard. It can be rediscovered, handed to a sibling or picked up two years later — several of the products here have no published expiry at all.
