What the numbers mean in practice
The doors are a play specification. A window changes what a five-year-old does with a wall. Once a structure has an opening, other toys go in it, and the tile set stops competing with the rest of the toy box and starts recruiting it.
Ball-run packs are a published growth path. Room to grow is one of the four things we look for, and the useful version is a different activity on the same hardware rather than simply more pieces.

Connetix publishes its construction plainly: tiles are “ultrasonically sealed and riveted for extra safety.” Those are two different retention methods doing the same job. On a toy whose only real hazard is a magnet escaping its housing, a belt-and-braces spec is the right kind of over-engineering.
The window, door and fence pieces are the other half of the case. They sound like decoration and they are not: a door converts a structure from a thing you look at into a place something goes inside, which is what pulls a small-world toy or a toy car into the game.
The travel bag is a genuine feature rather than packaging. Tiles stored in a deep box clump into a magnetic brick; a bag that gets emptied out solves the problem the storage usually creates.

Discs join edge to edge into curved, organic shells — spheres, domes, creatures. That is a real and pleasing kind of construction. It is not the flat-walled, roofed, doorway-having building that someone shopping for tiles is picturing, and swapping one for the other on price grounds produces a disappointed child.
